Do It For Charity
Morra DeRey & The Heavy Quarterz has composed a song titled Ixilongo (The wake up call) which they have chosen to be released as a single promo for a social responsibility campaign. The aim was to identify a beneficiary within the community of the Vaal Triangle to adopt and fundraise for.
On the 26TH of December, Morra DeRey & HQ, held an event in the Vaal Triangle, South Africa that was a proud moment for them and as well what a worthy cause that will benefit those less fortunate than you and I. The day was a day of music, dance, poetry but above all, a day of Giving.
Taking a stand and helping our fellow man is not only self fulfilling but shows that as a people we still maintain UBUNTU.
All proceeds of the sale of this ep will be passed on to the relevant charity.

A truly tribal gem blended with the finest African house flavour
ARTIST: Morra DeRey & The Heavy Quarterz featuring Mfalme
ALBUM: Roho Yangu
LABEL : BOMBA RECORDS
YEAR : 2010
Roho Yangu, Swahili for My Spirit explains itself for what it is, a spiritual jouney. In their first attempt at capturing the attention of the world of House music, Morra DeRey and the Heavy Quarterz have brewed a tribal African gem making their intention known, fill the dancefloors. This quartet of young talented “brothas” has come a long way in a short space of time with the Heavy Quarterz mainly doing features and Morra DeRey churning out his music by being a member of Bomba Records very own A-Team , featuring on Mzee’s Tamanini album and also the A Team’s first release Ntwanano.
The enlisting of some of House music’s finest can be described as “daring to take over the House market” and showing that in extending your hand you will build to go forward.
This release comes with six very different mixes starting with the Main Mix which in itself kicks starts the spiritual journey. Justin Imperiale’s mix is what you would define as being the essence of tribal, blending raw tribal drumming and melodic rhythms that definitely give the urge to get up and dance. Jaso still the youngest member of the A Team lends his skills with a get up and dance deephouse mix that should definitely get the deep heads nodding along. Filipe Narciso’s mix speaks volumes of itself simply that it’s Afrobeat and it’s Deep, this mix should definitely be one for the collectors. Jihad Mohammad defines a Movement that still carries you on this spiritual journey, the House maestro synthes through his mix with melodic elements that have you remeniscing of church days gone by. Mindlo & Essential-i maintain a steady flow of the journey with their Dub mix, this young duo have made a mark on the industry and by enlistin g their genius services, Morra DeRey & The Heavy Quarterz show that there is no boundary that will stop their progression.
As MDR & HQ would say Watcha Bomba!!!!
Reviews:
"The whole release is amazing, a version for each situation, but to me the Jihad's mix is the train of everything. I played it in Ibiza and was big! People really enjoyed it."
